Welcome to Carmel River School, one of three elementary schools in the Carmel Unified School District. Our school is located on the corner of Monte Verde and 15th Street, one half mile west of the Carmel Mission. River School students not only live in the Carmel area, but travel to school from as far south as Rocky Point in Big Sur, east into part of Carmel Valley, and north into Pebble Beach.

Our mission at Carmel River School is to provide a caring environment
that supports academic, personal, and social growth. Our goal is to
inspire, motivate, and challenge each student to achieve his/her full
potential through the highest quality of teaching. Classroom instruction
reflects current curriculum standards, textbook, and program adoptions as
defined by the state adoption process. This year our focus centered on
implementation of our new Carmel Writing Program, the expansion of our
outdoor science education program, and providing more community service
experiences for our students to help build character. Our base Academic
Performance Index this school year is 922, which places us in the highest
decile of performance in California with a rating of 10. More importantly,
River School received a 10 in the similar school ranking, which compares
schools with similar characteristics. River School will continue to build a
strong student, parent, and faculty partnership through PTA, School Site
Council, parent volunteers, and various school events that celebrate and
honor our students. River School is truly a wonderful environment for
Carmel students.
